Sony dropping online support for its older games

Sony is dropping their online support for a few games including Gran Turismo 5 and the Resistance series.

As of May 20, 2014 players will no longer able to use the online features for Gran Turismo 5. On March 28, 2014 Resistance: Fall of ManResistance 2, and Resistance 3 will lose their online features.

Other games to lose online functionality include MAG, SOCOM: Special Forces, and SOCOM: Confrontation. A full list can be seen here.

This isn’t news for PlayStation owners as Sony has dropped online support for other games in the past. It’s just surprising that some games such as MAG and SOCOM: Confrontation that only have online gameplay will be unplayable yet will most likely still circulate around used game retailers even after their online services go down. It’ll also be impossible for trophy hunters to platinum some of these games with online specific trophies once the online services go down.

I’m pretty nostalgic when it comes to games and am still a little sad when Microsoft pulled Halo 2 from Xbox LIVE. Here’s hoping for an anniversary release of that.
