Earthbound is a serious contender for greatest game of all time….that I have never played. Which is odd, because the 50’s styled, Japanese-in-origin SNES RPG seems totally and completely up my alley. Now that’s out on the Wii U Virtual Console, I’ve been really jonesing to get my hands on it…but now that I’ve seen Christopher Behr’s beautiful renderings of the 16-bit game in 3-D, I’m not sure if it will be enough.
Christopher Behr, a “3-D designer for hire”, according to his own website, spent a great deal of time in Cinema 4D and Photoshop to lovingly render one of Earthbound’s cities, Onett, in stunning 3-D that perfectly captures that atmosphere that I have heard so much about all these years. You can see one of his renders below, but you should go take a gander at the rest of the man’s work at his site. He’s a talented fellow, go show your support.
