The PlayStation 4 is about 6 days and 7 hours away at this point, and I’ve spent the majority of my day looking at launch games like Resogun, Knack, and Killzone: Shadow Fall. Then I came across this little indie game called Super Motherload. Pretty great title, right?
Super Motherload, being developed by XGen Studios, is described as a co-op digging adventure. Players takes on the role of Solarus Corporation new recruits, and after a sudden loss of communication with Earth, Solarus sends said new recruits down to the depths to restore communications. The game is fully voiced acted, and has a branching story with multiple endings. Super Motherload was written by Kurtis Wiebe, writer of Peter Panzerfaust (seriously, a really good comic), and that alone makes me excited for Super Motherload. The game also has a phenomenal art direction. Pastel mining pods highlighted against the red rock of Mars gives Super Motherload a really memorable look.
Super Motherload’s game-play consist of frantically digging into Mars, and returning to the surface to sell minerals, or refuel and repair your mining pod. The pods have a RPG-esque upgrade path, and there are quest for players to complete cooperatively, or solo.
It looks like it could be a bit of fun, or maybe I’m just looking for a co-op game to play with someone since a spent $60 on a spare DualShock 4. Either way, the trailer is pretty cool and has some great music.
