Coinciding perfectly with the 25th anniversary of the Metal Gear Solid series, Konami has opened a brand new Kojima Productions studio in the City of Angels, apparently intended for concentrated work on MGS games to come, as well as finishing off Zone of the Enders 3. The move has put the award-winning team into the ‘heart of the west’, says company president Tomoyuki Tsubio, and hopes to pick up fresh talent from the bustling home of American media. This could of course hint that perhaps the studio back home in Japan is going back to the drawing board for some ideas for a new franchise, although there’s no official word on that yet.
“Since Los Angeles is ground zero for the best studios, facilities and world-class talent, we are leaning on of these local resources to build an incredible team to create gaming experiences that are just as compelling as any film or television show” said Hideo Kojima himself in a recent statement. Although maybe he just fancied a smoggier view from his office. I’m sure it has that dystopic vibe.
