A brand new type of evolution is coming to the Pokémon franchise in the upcoming installments X and Y versions. First, with Gold and Silver, Nintendo threw baby Pokémon into the mix. Then in Diamond and Pearl, they added several new evolved forms of older Pokémon, like Electabuzz and Magmar. Now, according to leaked scans from CoroCoro magazine as posted on Serebii.net, Pokémon X and Y will introduce something called “Mega Evolution,” which seems to give previously fully evolved Pokémon brand new “Mega” forms.
As of now, Pokémon receiving the “Mega” treatment include Blaziken, Lucario, Absol, Mawile, Mewtwo, and Ampharos. In the case of Blaziken and Ampharos, this is pretty strange as there have never been four progressive evolutions for any Pokémon, and yet these will be given these new forms, as MegaBlaziken and MegaAmpharos, respectively. Still, there is no information on how these evolutions will come about or how their stats will be affected.
My biggest concern is not in their designs, which is sure to rile up some controversy among the diehard Pokémon community, but rather in the balancing of the game. Players of the series may know how powerful a Blaziken really is, but giving it even more power could very well just break the game, figuratively speaking. Hopefully, this will be assessed and explained sometime soon. It seems as though the balancing of the entire roster has been taken into consideration lately, what with the introduction of the new Fairy-type Pokémon that will be strong against the previously overpowered Dragon-types.
Along with “Mega Evolution,” the CoroCoro scans also show a few new Pokémon and a new gym leader. You can check out the scans down below. We will keep you updated as more information on these forms rolls in. What do you all think about these new “Mega Pokémon?” Feel free to post your opinions in the comments below!
Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be released worldwide, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS, on October 12th!
