A little confidence goes a long way and it seems Platinum Games is pretty confident in The Wonderful 101. Game director Hideki Kamiya revealed over twitter that the upcoming Wii U title probably won’t have DLC. According to Kamiya, this is because they’ve accomplished everything they wanted to within the base game alone. In a generation where most successful releases are followed up by DLC, this attitude is somewhat refreshing to say the least.
Users on Twitter have piled some praise on the no-DLC decision, but I’m holding my personal praise back for the time being. Don’t get me wrong, W101 looks like a fantastic game and was my favorite game of E3 2013, but lack of DLC on a WiiU release isn’t something to go crazy about. Total faith in the initial product is a nice thing to see, but it really doesn’t do much for me on such a small release. But mark my words, I’ll be the first one cheering when triple-A franchises adopt this kind of attitude.
