Seeing as how today is July 4th, I was expecting Steam to ring in the festivities with a sale on the Call of Duty series or something with an equally America, Fuck Yeah vibe to it. As it turns out, they’ve chosen today to release the legendary Playstation 1 RPG Final Fantasy VII.
Priced at $11.99, this version of Final Fantasy VII contains Achievements, (I swear this is what it’s called) Cloud Saves, and a Character Booster which is apparently God Mode for people who just want to play through the story without all the grinding — although if you don’t like grinding then why the hell would you be playing a JRPG in the first place? Anyway, I’m thinking of picking it up for the sheer nostalgic joy of playing through this landmark game again.
Final Fantasy VII has actually been available digitally on PC for a couple of years now, having first been released through Square Enix’s store. Having it available here however could be a highly lucrative move for both Steam and Square. Hopefully it’s a hit, because I’d gladly throw money down for Final Fantasy VIII and IX as well.
You can purchase your PC copy of Final Fantasy VII here.
