New Super Luigi U Gets A Standalone Retail Edition and New Playable Character

The hills are alive with the sound of Luigi.

The hills are alive with the sound of Luigi.

For the forlorn hearts who wish to experience the New Super Luigi U content but don’t own New Super Mario Bros. U, you are in luck. Satoru Iwata has announced a special 30th anniversary Year of Luigi edition of New Super Luigi U to be sold separately. This ought to be convenient for anyone with internet connectivity issues unable to download the downloadable content, people who don’t already own the original game, or collectors.

New Super Luigi U is supposed to be an expansion of New Super Mario Bros. U with a new campaign full of altered levels specifically for Luigi. There is also a new playable character for the multiplayer called Nabbit. Nabbit was introduced in the original game as a creature who would show up, robbing Toad’s house every now and then, making you chase after him through a level. Nabbit does have different abilities as he cannot take damage from enemies, but he cannot power up from any items. The character is intended more for any players who have a hard time keeping up with everyone else in a multiplayer game.

Oh, how sweet. Good for him.

I really dig the green box for this retail version, complete with new artwork featuring Luigi, Nabbit, and the two Toads doing whatever the hell they’re doing. You can get a hard copy of New Super Luigi U when it’s released on August 28th for $29.99. The digital copy will be available June 20th for $19.99.
