After Lionhead Studios released Fable: The Journey in October 2012, Peter Molyneux announced that he would be leaving the company he helped found, to work at 22Cans. Since then, the company famous for making one of the few remaining Xbox exclusive franchises has remained quiet about future games and plans for his replacement. That silence ended today when Microsoft announced that John Needham, the former CEO of Cryptic Studios and Gazillion Entertainment, would attempt to fill the ambitious and bombastic Molyneux’s shoes as head of the England-based studio. On the Lionhead website John writes:
“This is a historic time in our industry and I’m excited, and honoured, to be joining Lionhead and Microsoft Studios,’ John says of his appointment. “Our vision is focused on building innovative gaming services and AAA experiences at Lionhead, and the rest of Microsoft Studios, which take advantage of Microsoft’s incredible hardware and software platforms. Personally, I can’t wait to get started.”
Hopefully with this announcement, we’re one step closer to hearing something about the future of the Fable franchise and the next generation Xbox.
