Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has unveiled Suda 51’s newest game, Killer is Dead. I then proceeded to scour the web for as much information as I could on the subject.
The game’s protagonist is 35 year old Mondo Zappa who finds himself recruited to the Brian Execution Firm. As his new title of “executioner” implies, he must assassinate the most evil of criminals wielding his sword and robotic arm. His machine arm has the ability to turn into a variety of different weapons whilst absorbing the enemy’s blood. There’s some mystery behind that arm as well seeing as though Mondo doesn’t remember how he actually got it.
Of course it wouldn’t be complete without some sexy femme fatales of which Viviane Squall, 25 year old English woman and Mondo’s boss. Her cool public exterior belies a manic personality in private and sort of looks like Sylvia Christel from No More Heroes to me. Or at least I think I’m talking about the right women judging from the screenshots.
In the interview in Famitsu (translated by Polygon) Suda 51 brings up that “We’re trying to make a game that we’d only be able to make right now, at this point in time. The result is seen in our unique high-contrast shading seen in the graphics, as well as the high speed wrestling-like action.”
in regards to plot,
It’s the story of a man who doesn’t show himself much in the public world…but still worms his way into society and mercilessly eliminates the evil dispersed in it. It’s a personal story, not one that’s conscious of the chaos going on in the real world at the moment, but you might get more than a taste of that in the end anyway.
Hit the jump for screens for the upcoming game, releasing this summer in Japan for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
