[E3] Rayman Legends (Wii U): Co-op Hands-On Preview

We saw a new Rayman game with Rayman Origins just last year, but he’s back and on a new platform with Rayman Legends. Myself and Keith had an opportunity to jump over to Ubisoft’s Wii U booth, and played cooperatively in two different levels.

The co-op put Keith in control of the new Wii Pro controller, and I controlled the tablet. Keith was in control of Rayman, while I tapped certain environmental items to help Keith traverse the dangerous quarters of the map. Our first level put us in this tight-cornered spiked maze/box. Keith had to grab on to different parts of the box while I turned it in order for Keith to be able to traverse it until the end. The amount of teamwork involve is more than any other typical co-op experience, as communication was necessary, and a blast. Continuing after the maze, I had to change different environmental aspects in order for Keith to traverse the world quickly and efficiently. I had to turn one large half circled rock that was covered in spikes JUST as Keith was running up the wall, and when we finally achieved it, it was an amazing feeling.

Our second level was much like the levels in Rayman Origins in which you travel to the next world. Keith was running through the world seamlessly and fluidly, while I was tapping on the eyeballs in a rhythmic fashion in order for him to collect the little red floaty-dudes, which are of a higher value. You just can’t wipe the smile off your face while working in such congruence with your co-op partner. It’s an experience like no other.

If you checked out our Best of E3 2012 article, you would know that this was definitely my game of show. It was pure fun, and I can’t wait to play it when it comes out on the Wii U.
