I never thought I would be able to type those words. Konami officially announced today on their twitter feed that the classic beat-em-up Simpsons Arcade will be arriving on PSN and Xbox Live. With this release, Konami stated that this game will indeed have four player online co-op. Along with that, they have also mentioned that there are a few different modes to make you revisit Springfield more often. There’s the default “Quarters” mode where you play until you run out of lives. There’s also “Survival” mode where you try to get as far as you can with one life. Finally, they are bringing the Japanese version of the game bundled with it.
The Japanese version has quite a few interesting differences with it. The scoring method is slightly different in where you get different point amounts depending on how hard the enemy is and you get a score bonus at the end of a level for remaining health. Additionally, there is also a few unique weapons like the nuke and a large boulder. You can also use items while in the air in the Japanese version. The last tweak seems to be that more characters appear at the end after you beat *spoiler*.
Seriously, you have no idea how excited this makes me. If I saw the Simpsons Arcade cabinet in an arcade, that would be the first played. You can download this classic on February 3rd for XBLA and February 7th for PSN.
